It is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture. The south transept tower was built about 1180 as a watchtower and the remainder was added in 1220-1230. It nestles in a classic English churchyard. The chancel contains eight panels depicting biblical scenes, painted to mark its 700th anniversary in 1925. These caused considerable controversy as they depicted Christ walking on the Sussex Downs and local farmland, amidst modern figures, said to be residents from nearby villages! The village is made up of a number of hamlets - the main part of the village lies south of the A259, whilst the church is closer to the village of Ford than to Clymping. The "Black Horse," in the main village, is an 18th century inn once used by smugglers. Clymping beach is one of the last unspoilt stretches of coast between Brighton and Bognor and is well worth a visit.
